Greetings Colleagues,
Tonight, the Unit C Negotiations Committee met with the District. We were proud to have a strong presence of silent representatives in the room—thank you to all who showed up in support!
This meeting marked the first with the District’s new attorney, so much of the discussion was spent reviewing where things left off. The main topics on the table remain salary, the duration of the Unit C contract, and stipends for additional duties.
Here is a side-by-side comparison of the current salary proposals:
| Union Proposal | District Proposal |
| Year 1: 2.5% + $3/hour | Year 1: 2.5% |
| Year 2: 2.75% + $2/hour | Year 2: 1.25% + $1/hour |
| Two-year contract | Year 2: 2.5% total |
The District’s proposal would result in hourly increases of approximately $0.60 / $1.31 / $0.60 at the top step of the scale.
Unfortunately, the District continues to reject our proposals for stipends and refuses to agree to a two-year contract in order to align all four WEA units. Their unwillingness to provide a clear explanation leads us to believe that they are wary of the power and solidarity of all four units negotiating together.
Once again, the District claims they have nothing more to offer the 62 members of Unit C—the lowest-paid employees who work directly with our most vulnerable and challenging students.
Our next meeting will require a strong presence of members across all units as well as all buildings. Please, please, please do your best to attend this most important meeting: May 6 at 4:30 at WMS auditorium.
We will continue to push for a fair and respectful agreement. Thank you for your ongoing support and solidarity.
In unity,
The Unit C Negotiations Team
